Many cyclones in the cement industry are either not insulated or lined using only castable solutions. When fuel is alternative (waste etc), dew on the inside of the steel often causes decomposition of both steel and lining with continuous repair works on the lining to follow.
These problems can however be solved by insulating the cyclones with the diatomite bricks, POROS 500, from Skamol A/S.
Insulating the cyclones with POROS 500 will, due to an increase of the insulating effect inside the cyclones, move the dew point from the inside of the steel surface and into the layer of insulating bricks - minimizing the risk of corrosion of the steel. This does not cause problems in the brick layer as only approx. 4,2% acid soluble oxides will be dissolved in these insulating bricks and the lining will therefore still keep its structure. This reduces the need for continuous repair work on the lining and means less production stops compared to castables.
In addition, due to less amount of water in the lining compared to castable solutions, it will be significantly quicker to heat up the cyclones after lining them with POROS 500.
