Mining of Moler 1918 (Lokalhistorisk arkiv, Nykøbing Mors)
Skamol A/S was founded 1912 under the name Skarrehage Molerværk I/S with the purpose of utilizing the deposits of the unique diatomaceous earth known as "Moler", which is found in the Limfjord area in the north western part of Denmark. The Moler bricks were originally used for housebuilding and chimney linings.
Since the beginning as a local supplier of insulating bricks, Skamol has developed to a leading supplier of a wide range of insulating materials worldwide.
1912: Established as Skarrehage Molerværk A/S
1963: Established present Moler brick plant
1969: Established Vermiculite plant
1978: Introduced at Copenhagen Stock Exchange
1983: Start-up of Calcium Silicate plant
1987: Auriga Industries acquires all A shares
1992: Acquisition of Perlite plant in France
2004: New focused growth strategy is implemented
2007: Polaris Private Equity acquires all Skamol shares
2009: NCM facility sold to LiteCore A/S
